It feels like October

I know the calender says May 4...but have you looked outside lately?  In much of the world the weather is unseasonable.

Picture shamelessly stolen from Flossieblossoms on Facebook
They had snow in Arkansas this week.  Even my home town, which is well past traditional spring and working on early summer, has had days in the 40s.  Granted that isn't very cold, but it never really gets cold here.  May means snow cones, shorts, and flip flops....not socks and jackets.

It is almost as if we have all been caught in a crazy time warp and landed in October.  Which is only fitting as today my newest pattern, Wobbly Web, is being featured on Moda Bake Shop.

Wobbly Web features The Boo Crew by Sweetwater for Moda

My pal Scraps thinks it is about time that we appreciated monsterly things in a sunny season.  He loves this quilt....even if it does have some googly eyed spiders on it.

If you have just come from the bake shop then you know that I promised a pattern for the left over layer cake slices.  Funny story that.....I just finished making the quilt on Monday....ya, 4 days ago.  I haven't had much time to think about what to make out of those extra pieces.

I'm sitting at my computer, munching on candy (at 9:00 am - shh don't tell my mother....or my kids)
They're like a mouth full of rainbows!

which, oddly enough, is a November kind of thing to do. (What, you never had Halloween candy for breakfast in November?!)  and thinking about this dilemma.

I had been contemplating a scrappy pillow case to go with the quilt.  The quilt turned out fairly large and would work well on a bed if you didn't need a pillow tuck.  A scrappy pillow would be just the thing.

Scraps is really getting into this modeling gig
However, I'm not going to write a set of directions to make something that there are already a million sets of directions for.  I am going to remind you (those that are looking for a pattern for layer cake slices) that if you sew a bunch of slices together....say 15 of them in a 3 x 5 grid...you will have a big piece of scrappy fabric. (If you use 1/4" seams the piece will measure 29 x 48)  You can trim that down and use it for the larger piece of fabric in this pattern...which is what I did.

For added slumber party/pillow fight durability I ironed all seams allowance to one side and top stitched them.

Scraps thinks this is a great place to take a nap.
Now...that I am just a bit buzzed on sugar....I think it is time for a give away.  I have a bunch of layer cake slices left, + a yard of the lovely black texty fabric that I used for the web, + I think you need a bag of Jolly Rancher Bites too.

Scraps loves this package...and wants to remind you that he is NOT a part of the prize.  He is a one girl sort of monster.  (Lucky me!)

Leave a comment.   Tell me about your favorite confection or Halloween memory. I will draw a random winner on May 31 (That would be the closest I can get to Halloween)

Hee hee, love the idea of you eating candy for breakfast! So glad I'm not the only one, it's compulsory on Christmas Day too! Sadly when I was a kids Halloween didn't exist in the UK, although it was estalshed by the time the girls were little. As the weather is always miserable that time if year, my best Halloween wa the first time the girls were big enough to go out alone (albeit with very strict instructions who they could go to)!!! Love the quilt Cindy xxxxx

My favourite sweet is Cola Cubes but it has been years since I had them. A quarter of Cola Cubes in a paper bag was childhood heaven :)

This is a fab quilt and I love your monster. We didn't 'trick or treat' when I was young but I have a halloween story. My friend is an osteopath and one halloween she thought she'd make an effort to enter into the spirit so when she heard a knock at the door she took her skeleton with her to answer it. Standing on the step was a little girl of about four, with her mother. Unfortunately the little girl was terrified and burst into tears :(

Your new pattern looks great Cindy! If nobody sees you, candy for breakfast is completely acceptable!I could seriously eat any kind of candy, with Peanut M&M's being a favourite! Your monster is way too loveable to be a monster! LOL.

I indulge in sweets whenever... and love breakfast for dinner so it's all good! Love your new pattern, I am so lacking in Halloween quilty deco and will have to correct that situation after UFO Busting is over.

I ADORE this quilt!!! The spider is SO cute!! And it's totally OK to treat yourself to candy for breakfast every now and then. My favorite memory of Halloween is when my boys were little and we would have a small party each year with their friends. We would roast hot dogs and marshmellows and tell scary stories. It was great!!

My Grandma sewed me a witch costume. The cape had white embroidered spiders with cotton ball bodies. Not sure how that didn't get saved, but I sure wish I had it now. I wore it one Halloween and for years after for dress up.

I absolutely LOVE your Bake Shop quilt. And now that you've said it would fit a bed, there's no question that I have to make one for my monster-obsessed boys. :-)

Love those webs! snd Scraps....well, he looks like a natural model playboy.

My favorite Halloween memory is when I was a kid trick or treating with friends without an adult (this was back in the days). I was almost home with a huge bag of loot when 3 teenage boys knocked me down and drug me a bit to steal my candy. About an hour later, the teenage brother of my best friend went out trick or treating and brought me what he could get in that hour. I was really touched by his kindness.

PS. Halloween was important to me because my mother NEVER allowed us to have chocolate, junk food, or any candy. If I got a piece of chocolate, I thought I was in Heaven. And yes, I did eat some chocolate before I came home and she inspected our candy :)

Love this quilt! When I was little I was terrified of Halloween and anything scary. Now Halloween is a favorite! It will be hard to wait until May 31...

Saw your quilt in the Bake Shop...so cute. Favorite thing about Halloween was planning our route and being out alone at night. Or maybe the big bag of candy was my favorite thing. You used to get much larger candy bars.

Like the first comment I am from the UK, so I celebrated bonfire night rather than Halloween. My favourite sweets were opal fruits (Do you have them in the US?). I love your monster, he reminds me of one from the Muppet show.

I love your spider-webby quilt: and it's not too spooky!! I hate creepy, gory haloween things> I like the cute and cuddly haloween decorations!! My favorite halloween memories are going out with a pillowcase and coming back with it almost all filled up. I do have a sweet tooth, so I can't pick a favorite candy (I love too many of them!!), but you can bet I've eaten candy for breakfast (how about this morning?) :-) Hey, and I went and checked out where Frisco, Tx is, and wow!! I lived in Lake Dallas for about a half year, and in Carrollton also. It's been about 30 yrs ago, but it was fun (and humid!!) Have a great week! H in Healdsburg

Love the quilt pattern. I'm thinking of translating the web to a lattice with florals for the layer cake fabric. My favorite halloween candy has to be licorice jelly beans. Thanks for the drawing!

What a great pattern on Bake Shop today. My fav candy for Halloween is the little Tootsie Rolls. They just pop in your mouth. Thanks for the chance to win.

I love candy any time of day! Just ask my wealthy dentist! Licorice is my favorite followed by caramel bullseyes. Your quilt is adorable! Thanks for the chance to win!

Well being from Oz (that would be Australia, not er not Kansas) we still don't really do Halloween so much. When I was a kid, sometime in Winter we used to have bonfires, firecrackers, and sparklers, and that was loads of fun.
Love lollies (candy) for breakfast, especially when you then have cereal for tea (dinner) :) Gosh I am starting to feel like I need to get Google Translate involved, lol. Love the quilt pattern, there are so many fabrics the web would look great on, my mind is whirring :)

I have been collecting Halloween fat quarters over the last few years to put together into a quilt. Haven't found the right pattern until now! How perfect those pieces would be in it!

I love Halloween quilts and yours is stunning! I think your monster buddy is a cutie. I've always loved peanut butter so my favorite candy has been Reese's peanut butter cups.

I say one can never have enough scraps (or fabric for that matter) and since my grown daughter loves to shop my "personal fabric store" I sure could use the fabric. The candy would provide us with the sugar high to continue sewing into the night. Oh the fun of having a "sewing sleepover"
